Educate Girls Network (EGN) has partnered with the William VS Tubman University (TU) located in Harper, Maryland County, Liberia.
Together EGN and TU have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) enabling EGN to raise funds for students who want to become teachers, and establishing the terms by which TU will administer the funds.
The EGN scholarship will include the costs of tuition and housing. TU has set the cost per semester for one student at $1295 (US) broken down in the chart below.
TU is a public university, founded in 1978. After closing during the first and second civil wars in Liberia, it reopened in 2003 under the direction of the new Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Dr. Elizabeth Davis-Russell as the first female university president.
By 2009, TU had been renovated and by the first semester of the 2013-14 school year, 838 students were enrolled. TU administers six colleges: College of Agriculture and Food Sciences, College of Education, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Health Sciences, College of Public Leadership & Management and College of Arts and Sciences.
EGN and TU are grateful for all of the support we have received thus far in the fundraising efforts.
